Dr. Reyzan Shali Selected as Top Doctor of the Year by IAOTP
Dr. Reyzan Shali board-certified internist specializing in geriatrics, internal medicine, and women’s health, was recently selected as Top Doctor of the Year for 2023 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself; only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All Honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
As a dynamic, results-driven leader, Dr. Shali practices internal medicine at Tri-City Primary Care in Vista, California. With almost two decades of experience in the industry, Dr. Shali has certainly proven herself as an expert in her field. She chose primary care because it allowed her to develop relationships with her patients, one of the main reasons she remained in that field.
A Kurdish woman born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, Dr. Reyzan Shali earned her medical degree in 1992 from the University of Baghdad College of Medicine. She subsequently moved to the United States and completed her internal medicine residency at Ascension Providence/MSUCHM in 2002. Dr. Shali is known for her resilient spirit and kind soul.
Inspired by the noble work of her family members, and seeing patients trust in them, Dr. Shali was driven to pursue a career in medicine from a young age. She was captivated by the frequency with which they assisted people—building solid relationships, addressing medical concerns, and rejoicing in the achievement of their patients’ health objectives. With unwavering determination, she refined her expertise in internal medicine, driven by a deep-seated passion for oncology. As she tended to the needs of oncology patients, she gradually discovered a deepening emotional connection. As she embarked on her journey, she realized that overwhelming emotions could hinder her ability to provide top-notch service. Driven by her passion for healing patients, she decided to channel her focus on becoming the best primary care physician possible. Dr. Shali believes that open communication is the key to a healthy doctor-patient relationship, which helps her provide high-quality health care to each patient. She has developed close relationships with her patients over the years; they now feel like family and friends.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Shali has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her accomplishments. This year she will be considered for the Empowered Woman Award and to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. She will be honored at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the iconic NYC Plaza Hotel this December for her selection as Top Doctor of the Year 2023.
Aside from her successful career, Dr. Shali is a sought-after speaker and author of “Teaming Up Against Cancer: Simple, Powerful Ways to Beat the Odds and Take Your Life Back,” a book that outlines cancer recovery strategies as well as dietary recommendations to prevent the disease from reoccurring. Losing both of her parents to this terrible disease, was her motivation to write her books. Dr. Shali also has been a contributor to many articles and writes for Thrive Global. Dr. Shali is apart of the American Medical Association (AMA) and American College of Physicians (ACP) member. She writes for local newspapers and publications, and her work has appeared in The North County Times as well as many others. Right now, Dr. Shali is adding and incorporating into her successful practice her passion in helping and empowering both men and women who have come from condescending and maligning environments and encourage them to have self-love, acceptance, find inner peace and develop a positive mindset.

Looking back, Dr. Shali attributes her success to her determination, empathy, and the life lessons her parents bestowed upon her, mainly to manifest kindness. When she is not working, she enjoys cooking, spending time with her husband Rastgo, her two boys Kawan and Kurdo, and traveling to visit family. In the future, Dr. Shali aspires to become the person who can bring a sense of comfort and ease to individuals and families by helping them to uncover solutions, bridge gaps, and embark on the road to healing.
